Roberto Solazzo has been appointed Head of the Amman Office ad interim, effective September 1, 2025.
Roberto previously served as Deputy Head of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) office in Amman, effective January 15th, 2024, bringing nearly five years of experience from the Rome Headquarters.
In Rome, he served as manager and coordinator for the activities of the Office of Deputy Technical Director, who subsequently became Director General ad interim. Roberto continued to manage and coordinate his activities throughout both positions.
Before joining AICS, Roberto served as a Military Corps Senior Officer with the Italian Red Cross from 1990 to 2017.
He participated in diverse national and international emergency operations, playing various roles: managing, sending, and delivering aid to the population in the former Yugoslavia and then in Kosovo during the conflict, the "Antica Babilonia" operation in Iraq, tsunami relief in Southeast Asia, aid after the Russian invasion of South Ossetia (Georgia), the Haiti earthquake, and managing a refugee camp in Tunisia during the Arab Spring.
Within Italy, he managed and coordinated aid efforts following the Umbria and Marche earthquakes, the Alessandria flood, the Aquila earthquake (initially in the field and later managing the Unified Collection and Sorting Center in Avezzano), and the Emilia earthquake.
In 2017, Roberto transitioned to the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, where he held the position of Administrative Director for the Archaeological Park of Appia Antica first and then for the Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica. He has been working for AICS since May 2019: on top of the abovementioned duties, he also undertook a six–month mission in Vietnam to facilitate the office transfer from Yangon (Myanmar) to Hanoi.
Beyond his academic background in Political Science and International Relations, Economic science, Roberto holds several master's degrees, including Company Law and Business Economics, Emergency Manager, Disaster Response in International Emergencies, and Instructor Qualified and Legal Adviser in International Humanitarian Law.
